Common Questions
Whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) briefly exposes the body to very cold, dry air (typically –110 °C) for 2–3 minutes. Cold receptors in the skin trigger a rapid, systemic response—temporary vasoconstriction followed by rebound circulation—that’s associated with reduced post-exercise soreness and a refreshed, “reset” feeling. It’s a wellness modality, not a medical treatment.
Electric systems (like iCEPOD® COMPACT and SOLO 2) cool room air and deliver oxygenated, breathable cold—no nitrogen, no handling of consumable gas, and simpler site compliance. They offer stable set-points, individual intensity control, and consistent whole-body exposure. Nitrogen units chill using vaporised gas and require ongoing gas logistics and additional safety considerations.
Standard sessions run 2–3 minutes after a short pre-entry briefing. For recovery or general wellness, many users start with 2–4 sessions per week for the first 2–3 weeks, then maintain 1–3 sessions weekly. Always listen to your body and your practitioner’s guidance.
Keep the skin dry and remove metal jewellery. Facilities provide dry socks, slippers, gloves and often ear/head protection; minimal clothing (e.g., shorts/sports bra) is typical. Avoid lotions or moisture beforehand, and hydrate normally.
Do not use WBC if you’re pregnant, have uncontrolled hypertension, severe cardiovascular disease, Raynaud’s, cold urticaria, open wounds, recent major surgery, or severe neuropathy. If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult your clinician first. Sessions are always supervised, with safety checks and emergency stop.
You’ll feel an intense, dry chill that most people find surprisingly tolerable for a few minutes; skin may look flushed for 10–20 minutes afterward. Many report lighter legs, reduced post-workout soreness, and a clear, energized feeling. Consistency matters—benefits tend to build over several sessions.
